Protecting children online is a global challenge, which requires a global approach. While many efforts to improve child online protection are already under way, their reach has been more national than global. ITU has established the Child Online Protection initiative to create an international collaborative network and promote online safety of children around the world.

Active threats
Child online protection guidelines

If you allow your children to spend considerable time surfing the web it does not mean that they are staying in safety. There are very serious threats online, which may affect their life and future . The most dangerous at the moment are:

  • “Blue Whale” – is a “game” initially innocuous, but at the final challenge requiring the child to commit a suicide

Children and young people need to be aware of risks online. The guidelines advise them on possible harmful activities online, such as bullying and harassment, identity theft, and other abuse. From the other side the guidelines for parents, provide recommendations on what they can do to make their child’s online experience a positive one.
